Col.  (Ret) Erwin Burtnick, Commander of the  Maryland Department of Jewish War Veterans of the USA.   A life time member of the Board of Directors of the Baltimore Jewish Council,  A member of the Military Order of the World Wars and a member of Jewish War Veterans Post 167 passed away on Saturday, November 25th, 2023.   He was a wonderful caring and well informed Military man. He has helped veterans and their families for many years.   Erwin was well known throughout the country for his military education and knowledge of VA benefits.   He travelled to different states for events, speaking engagements and conventions when necessary.  He was dedicated to the well being of veterans everywhere.  A wonderful husband and father and a good friend. We celebrated with him on his birthday on November 3rd at dinner with his wife and a few friends.  Erwin was full of life, laughter and of course his military talks which he always enjoyed.  That is the way I will remember him.  He will be missed dearly.   His name will be mentioned in conversations for years to come because of his knowledge and determination to make life better for veterans everywhere.  He was my mentor.  Erwin was a hero in his own way. He was appreciated by so many. Thank you soldier for your Life's work.
