OWINGS MILLS - The Greater Baltimore Chamber of Commerce (GBCC) is prepping for its signature event, the 2023 Heads & Tails 5K Run/Walk & Doggie Dash. Set against the scenic backdrop of the Garrison Forest School, the event is slated for Sunday, October 29.

Anticipating a turnout of approximately 450 attendees — comprising volunteers, avid runners, dog lovers, and their furry companions — the event will kick off with on-site registrations at 7:30 a.m. Attendees can immerse themselves in various activities, from a Pre-Race Warmup to the Doggie Dash, all accompanied by a DJ's lively beats and wrapping up with a Halloween Costume Contest.

This event serves as a fundraising endeavor for the GBCC, aimed at enhancing local business development. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the first responders who addressed the recent eight-alarm fire at Soldiers Delight. Additionally, contributions are open for Reed's Rescue, a non-profit that aids in rescuing elderly or critically ill dogs from local shelters.

The 5K run is set to start at 9 a.m., welcoming runners of all capabilities. Cash prizes await top finishers in both male and female divisions, and special awards are earmarked for outstanding participants in various age brackets.

At 9:30 a.m., the half-mile-long Doggie Dash invites pet owners and their dogs for an enjoyable stroll or jog. The event's mascot, selected from a design contest among the Garrison Forest community, will be in attendance. All participating dogs will receive race bibs, unique Tito's bandanas, and an opportunity to secure awards.

Online sign-ups for the event are currently active, offering tiered registration fees tailored to runners, kids, and dogs. Groups of ten or more can benefit from a registration discount.

Race entry not only guarantees participants an exciting day out but also includes bottled water, breakfast, race shirts, access to the Vendor Village, and chances to win prizes sponsored by local businesses, including CoastTec, Garrison Forest School, and Tito's Handmade Vodka.

"We encourage area residents, visitors, and businesses to come out for the Heads & Tails 5K Run/Walk & Doggie Dash – a fun family event for humans and canines alike that directly benefits the community," said event chairs Ed Steinberg, Heidi Marie Bell, and Jonathan Sevel.
