OWINGS MILLS - After over a decade of successful operation in Owings Mills, the House of Ruth Maryland (HRM) is set to relocate Ruth's Closet to Baltimore's Charles Village.
The boutique, the first social enterprise initiative of HRM, has consistently surpassed its goals of selling affordable clothing and educating residents about HRM services thanks to its dedicated staff, committed volunteers, and loyal clientele.
Since its establishment in the Valley Village Shopping Center on January 7, 2011, Ruth's Closet has provided upscale resale of new and gently worn women's clothing and accessories. All profits from the boutique are funneled back into HRM's programs and services to support intimate partner violence victims. Not only does the enterprise offer the public a chance to buy high-quality, affordable clothing, but it also serves as a vital information center about the services provided by HRM.
"We appreciate everyone that has made our Owings Mills location feel like a home for the past twelve years, and we cannot wait to have you join us in our new home in Charles Village," the organization said in a statement.
According to a statement from HRM, as the lease renewal approaches amid the challenging post-COVID retail environment, HRM, in consultation with staff leadership and the Board of Directors, decided it was time for a change. The relocation will take Ruth's Closet to the HRM Community Engagement Center at 2521 North Charles Street, consolidating the enterprise's donation and retail operations under one roof.
This move will better position Ruth's Closet for its future while ensuring the mission of HRM continues to be robustly supported. Moreover, the move will maintain the social enterprise's strong presence in the community.
While the exact timeline for the transition is being finalized, patrons can expect special sales and events at the Owings Mills location in the months ahead. HRM is encouraging supporters to follow both the House of Ruth Maryland and Ruth's Closet on their social media channels for updates and details about the new location's grand opening in Charles Village.
