BALTIMORE COUNTY - The Baltimore County Board of Education has tapped an experienced search firm to aid in selecting the next superintendent.

McPherson and Jacobson LLC were chosen from six search firms that responded to the board’s request for proposals in January following Superintendent Dr. Darryl L. Williams’ announcement that he would not seek another contract.

The Board unanimously approved a contract for $150,000 with McPherson and Jacobson during its February 28 meeting.

Board of Education Chair Jane Lichter says the search firm will help attract qualified candidates.

“McPherson and Jacobson has 22 years of experience and has participated in more than 330 superintendent searches, many for large and diverse districts like ours,” Lichter said. “They have the knowledge and experience to help us attract a strong, diverse, and highly-qualified pool of candidates and to fully engage the Team BCPS community in the search process.”

The Board will meet with McPherson and Jacobson to develop a work plan for the search, including the nature and extent of community involvement and engagement.

A superintendent search website will soon be created to serve as a hub for information related to the search, including important dates and milestones.

“The Board is committed to a transparent and efficient search process and engaging with Team BCPS staff, students, and community to find the best candidate to lead the district in its effort to raise the bar, close gaps, and prepare students for their future,” the board wrote in a news release.
