OWINGS MILLS - On Wednesday, a jury convicted two brothers for the 2021 murder of Deras Washington outside an Owings Mills apartment complex.
According to court records, on July 22, 2021, Washington arranged a marijuana deal with 19-year-old Malik Gregory at the Brookside Common Apartments in Owings Mills.
Prosecutors said Malik Gregory brought his 21-year-old brother, Kyree Gregory, to the deal. Court documents state that the two attempted to rob Washington at gunpoint, leading to a struggle between the three men.
During the altercation, Washington was shot and killed. Police said that when officers arrived, they found him wounded inside a vehicle that had jumped the curb.
According to court records, Kyree Gregory was arrested and charged with illegally possessing a gun less than one month after the murder of Washington.
He was released one day later and was not charged with Washington’s murder until October 5, 2021.
A sentencing hearing for the Gregory brothers is scheduled for March 30. They face a life sentence for first-degree murder.
Kyree Gregory will face another trial on February 27 for the original gun possession charge.
