BALTIMORE COUNTY - Maryland Transportation Authority announced on Monday There will be a new traffic pattern starting Sunday at the Fort McHenry Tunnel.

There will be two highway speed lanes and two standard toll plaza lanes on southbound Interstate 95. Southbound tolls will be collected with a new overhead electronic toll gantry located just before the tunnel entrance.

Motorists driving in the left two lanes will use the left tube of the tunnel. Commercial vehicles and drivers using Exit 55/Key Highway should use the right tube of the tunnel.

Motorists entering southbound I-95 from Keith Avenue are advised to use caution when merging with traffic.

Tolling remains in effect; however, the digital signs at the toll plaza that show whether tolls have been paid will be deactivated.

As drivers get accustomed to the new system, MTA reminds motorists to stay alert and adhere to the overhead lane use signs.

According to the MTA, these changes are expected to take effect in late January or early February.
