OWINGS MILLS - According to the Baltimore County States Attorney's Office, a former Baltimore City police officer charged with sexually abusing children at an Owings Mills daycare is now accused of assaulting two additional children.
57-year-old James Weem was previously charged with assaulting multiple children at Lil Kids Kastle Development Center in Owings Mills.
He now faces two more accusations of sexually assaulting a minor.
Police first learned of Weem's alleged crimes after he was shot by his wife, Shanteari Weems, at a hotel in downtown Washington. According to investigators, Shanteari Weems confronted her husband after learning of the abuse allegations of at least three children at the daycare she runs.
Days after the shooting, James Weems was charged in Baltimore County for abusing two children. Shanteari was charged with attempted murder, but her attorney claims she shot her husband in self-defense.
According to Baltimore Police, Weems previously worked as a Baltimore City police officer from 1996 to 2005 and continued to work as a contract specialist until 2008.
Baltimore County has confirmed four victims; an eight-year-old, two nine-year-olds, and an 11-year-old, according to Baltimore County States Attorney Scott Shellenberger.
Shellenberger says the investigation is ongoing as the police interview more children from the daycare.
James Weems is being held without bond at Baltimore County Detention Center in Towson.
