Its Apple Season At Owings Mills Farmers Markets

OWINGS MILLS - Farmer’s markets across Owings Mills and Reisterstown are swinging into full gear for the autumn season. Vendors are selling hot apple cider, delicious apple scones, and hearty apple pies.

Many don’t associate Maryland with delicious apples, but according to the Maryland Apple Promotion Board, a trade group of Maryland orchardists, there are 36 working orchards in Maryland.

Apple season varies by the variety of apples. Some grow best in the warmer months such as Galas, and some do not ripen until early November. Although apples can be bought year-round from the grocery store, most varieties are only naturally ripe for a few weeks in the fall. September and October are known for Red Delicious and Honey Crisp apples.

Local growers from Maryland, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and New York will be at farmers’ markets near you this fall. Farmer’s markets in the Owings Mills area include:

  • The Owings Mills Farmers Market, at 3506 Gwynnbrook Ave, is open from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. every Sunday.
  • The Reisterstown Farmers Market, at 120 Main St, is open from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. every Sunday.
  • Also, be sure to check out Braglio Farms at 10519 Marriotsville Rd, They sell fresh apples, and apple cider. They are open from 12:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday through Friday, and from 10:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
