REISTERSTOWN, MD — A woman died after a mishap occurred while she was parking, sending her vehicle into a quarry in Reisterstown on Wednesday night, according to police.

Ella Zagranichny, 71, was pronounced deceased at the scene in the 600 block of Quarry View Court, officials said.

Crews were called about a vehicle sinking in the quarry around 8:40 p.m., police said.

A zodiac rescue boat, dive unit and specialized tactical rescue team were assigned to the case, officials reported.

Crews from the Franklin fire station were first to arrive; and upon seeing a vehicle that was overturned in the water, they sent a rescue boat to get to the victim, police said.

Zagranichny was pronounced deceased at 9:56 p.m. by medical personnel, authorities reported.

Investigators said she had been trying to park a 2019 Nissan Rogue when the car accelerated over a curb, ran through a fence and traveled down an embankment into the quarry.

The Baltimore County Police Crash Team is still investigating, police reported on Thursday afternoon.
