Baltimore Police ID Officer Involved in Training Shooting

Officer William S. Kern, an 18-year-veteran of the Baltimore Police, was named at the officer involved in Tuesday’s training exercise shooting in Owings Mills.

Baltimore Police have released the name of the officer involved in the incident that left a police trainee critically wounded Tuesday afternoon. Officer William S. Kern, 46, was assigned as an instructor in the education and training section in Baltimore Police. A University of Maryland Baltimore Police trainee was shot in the head by an instructor during an exercise at an Owings Mills training facility at the Rosewood Center, which is run by the department. The University of Maryland Baltimore police trainee, a man in his 40s, was in critical condition Wednesday, and Baltimore Police did not have an update on his condition Thursday afternoon. UMD Police Trainee Shot During Owings Mills Exercise

A police trainee was shot during a training exercise in Owings Mills Tuesday afternoon.

A University of Maryland police trainee was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma after being shot during a training exercise Tuesday afternoon, police confirmed. Baltimore City Police have a training facility on Rosewood Lane in Owings Mills, but Detective Angela Carter-Watson, a police spokeswoman, could only confirm that the incident occurred in Owings Mills at 2:36 p.m. ABC2 News reported that the incident happened at the Rosewood Center on Rosewood Lane. At 3 p.m., Carter-Watson said the trainee was being transported by medevac to Maryland Shock Trauma. The nature of the injuries was still under investigation, she said. Off-Duty City Police Officer Arrested in Towson

The officer was acting belligerent and pointed his gun at two men.

An off-duty Baltimore City Police officer was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment after pointing his departmentally-issued handgun at people in Towson. Matthew David Daugherty, 28, was arrested around 2:15 a.m. Saturday morning and later released on $75,000 bail. Baltimore County Police responded to the Rec Room at 512 York Road in Towson at 2:15 a.m., where an employee told them an intoxicated off-duty city officer was acting belligerent and saying he had a gun. The employee took car keys from the man as the bar was closing because he appeared too intoxicated to drive, according to a police press release. UPDATE: City Police Officer Not Critical After 795 Crash

A Baltimore City Police officer sustained non-life threatening injuries after a motorcycle accident on I-795 Tuesday morning.

UPDATE, 12:23 p.m. Oct. 2: A Baltimore City Police officer was transported to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma with non-life threatening injuries after an accident on his motorcycle on 795 in Owings Mills Tuesday morning. The officer, who is assigned to the city police’s special operations section, was traveling north on 795 near Owings Mills Boulevard at 8:18 a.m. when his motorcycle struck the metal connecting portion of the roadway between the road and the overpass. His motorcycle began to sway back and forth, and to avoid striking other vehicles, he laid his motorcycle on its side, causing it to slide on the pavement, according to a Maryland State Police press release. House Committee Will 'Tweak' Gaming Bill

A bill authorizing gambling expansion in Maryland will likely be amended, according to the chairman of the House subcommittee that is holding hearings on the legislation. Del. Frank Turner, a Howard County Democrat, initially characterized possible changes to the bill passed Friday by the Senate as minor.
