Weekend Concerts: Mos Def, Talking Heads Tribute and More

Catch hip-hop, metal, funk and classic rock in Baltimore and the surrounding towns this weekend.

Those looking to catch some live music this weekend have an eclectic variety of national and regional acts to choose from. If you're in the mood for hip-hop, head to Rams Head Live on Friday for Yasiin Bey aka Mos Def. If you're in the mood for metal, head to Hampden Saturday night for Necropsy. If you want to jam and dance, head to the 8x10 for Talking Heads Tribute The Psycho Killers on Friday, or Saturday for funk-rock band Subtle Hustle and electro-rock jamband Big Something. End of an Era for Iconic Baltimore Band, The Bridge

The Bridge will take the stage for the last time at Rams Head Live tonight.

The Bridge was on its spring tour promoting the newly released album National Bohemian, praised by critics as perhaps the band’s most poignant recording, when its members had to face something that had become all too familiar in their 10 years on the road: a low-paying show that would boast a modest crowd at best. The band even considered canceling its tour. “It just kinda fell apart one day,” saxophone player Patrick Rainey recalled. Over breakfast, the band decided to cancel only its Birmingham, AL, show and drive to New Orleans to continue its tour. Then came the breakdown that would lead to the band’s breakup. I've got so many great memories associated with this band and the family that I've gained through seeing many of their live performances. Tonight is going to be tough for many of us.
