Owings Mills-Reisterstown Crime: Car Stolen, Copper Cut From Cell Tower

13-Year-Old Charged with Attempted Robbery, Assault

An Owings Mills teen was charged in an incident that sent an 18-year-old Baltimore man to the hospital.

A 13-year-old Owings Mills boy is charged with attempted robbery and assault after he hospitalized an 18-year-old. The teen pulled a knife on the 18-year-old in an attempt to rob him on Friday, May 10, at 4:14 p.m., behind the Giant store at 9730 Groffs Mill Drive. After putting the knife away, the boy assaulted him. The man was sent to Sinai Hospital for non-life-threatening facial injuries, said Lt. Stephen Doarnberger, assistant commander of the Baltimore County Police’s Franklin precinct. Owings Mills-Reisterstown Crime: Attempted Murder, Shed Break-Ins

Stone Garden Court. Unit block. Between 9:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on May 3. A burglar stole two string trimmers and two leaf blowers after breaking into a shed in the back of the property. Woodland Drive. 11300 block. Between 8 a.m. and 4:38 p.m. on May 3. A burglar stole an 18-karat high school ring, a gold ring and five $2 bills after kicking in the side door to enter the home. Franklin Precinct Crime Down in 2012

Violent crime was down nearly 14.2 percent compared to the five-year average, according to police statistics released Wednesday.

The Franklin precinct, which serves Owings Mills and Reisterstown, is one of nine Baltimore County police precincts that saw across-the-board drops in crime in 2012 compared to the five-year average. According to statistics released Wednesday, 2012 incidents of Part I violent crime—including homicide, rape, robbery and aggravated assault—were 14.2 percent below the five-year average. Overall Part I crime, including arsons, thefts and burglaries, was down 12.1 percent compared to the five-year average. Overall crime was down 9 percent compared to the average, according to the statistics. "These are some of the best numbers I've seen in my career," police Chief Jim Johnson said of the countywide figures. "You have to go back 30 years to find…

Armed Robber Surprises Man in Garrison

Report: Motorist parks his car and turns to find that a black, semi-automatic handgun is pointed at his face.

A man who had just parked his car in a Garrison neighborhood was robbed at gunpoint Tuesday. At 1:10 a.m., the man got out of his car in the unit block of Hartley Circle, turned around and was confronted by a man pointing a black, semi-automatic handgun at him, according to a report by Baltimore County police. The robber, who wore a white "hospital mask," pointed the gun at the victim's face and demanded money, the report states. He got cash, then ran away toward Township Drive. The robber is described as a black man in his 20s who is 5-foot-8 with a slim build. He wore a gray, hooded sweatshirt and bluejeans, the report states.

Robber Borrows Phone, Fails To Snatch Purse

Criminal runs, empty-handed, after woman screams.

A woman let a stranger use her cell phone, but her screams prevented him from snatching her purse. At 2:23 p.m. Friday, a man came up to a woman near her apartment in the 8000 block of Township Drive in Garrison and asked to use her phone. She let him, and he returned it. Then "he tried to snatch her purse," a report by Baltimore County police states. "After the victim began screaming, the suspect took off running and was unable to steal her purse," it states. He left without stealing anything.

Owings Mills-Reisterstown Crime: Copper Stolen, Attempted Burglary

The following information was supplied by the Baltimore County Police Department's Franklin Precinct, which covers Reisterstown and Owings Mills. Arrests do not indicate convictions.

Gwynnswood Road. Unit block. Between 8:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on March 29. A burglar damaged the front door and broke the lock. The homeowner found a rock near the door that may have been used to break the lock and open the door. Nothing appeared stolen. Dark Hollow Road. 16100 block Between 1 p.m. on March 26 and 1 p.m. on March 28. A burglar removed 30 copper cables from the yard, a total value of $400.

Owings Mills-Reisterstown Crime: Armed Robbery, Medications Stolen

Commications Electronics. 9400 Reisterstown Road. 6:45 p.m. March 22. Two robbers, one armed with a gun, stole bank cards, cell phones, iPods and cash from an employee. They took the employee to the back of the store, taped his hands and feet together, stole the goods and fled in an unknown vehicle in an unknown direction. Glen Falls Road. 6200 block. Between 9:20 a.m. and 1:10 p.m. March 19. A burglar ransacked the house and stole hydrocodone and oxycodone medications.

Owings Mills-Reisterstown Crime: Burglar Breaks Wall Between Businesses

Lakeside Boulevard. 9200 block. 3:23 a.m. on March 9. A burglar broke into Fortune China by breaking the front door lock then stole $100 from a cash register. Once inside, the burglar broke through the drywall to gain entry to Tower Federal Credit Union next door, where there was an unsuccessful attempt to cut open the ATM. Nothing was stolen from the bank. Vintage Ivy Lane. 4300 block. 8:47 p.m. on March 8. A burglar forced open the front door frame then, once inside the home, force open the bedroom door and stole four handbags, one clutch and seven watches. Gentlebrook Road. 100 block. Stop Crime says don't go there. If everyone follows that advice there will soon be nolstores to go to anyway. The stores and landlords need to get together and find ways to deal with the problem. Landlords, too, or their properties will soon sit empty.   more ›

Owings Mills Crime: Burglary Arrests, Watches, Rings Stolen

Owings Mills Home Depot. 9818 Reisterstown Road. 2:28 a.m. on March 3. Two burglars pried open the side door to the tool rental section with a large crowbar and set of the store alarm. Video surveillance showed them leaving with two unknown tools. Garrison Forest Road. 300 block. 12:04 a.m. on March 1. A burglar entered the home through an unlocked window and exited when the victim woke up. Riverstone Drive. 4700 block. Between 9 a.m. on Feb. 17 and 4:36 p.m. on Feb. 28. Herbert Kaackm was charged with first-degree burglary after allegedly trying to sell merchandise stolen in a burglary.
