New Town Boys Basketball Advances to State Semifinals

New Town beat Pikesville 71-58 in the 1A North regional finals Thursday night.

New Town High School’s boys basketball team has a shot at the MPSSAA (Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association) state finals if it can defeat the 1A West regional champion next week. The team defeated Pikesville 71-58 Thursday night, and will now face either Brunswick of Allegany, who compete in the 1A West regional championship game Saturday, March 9, at 12 p.m. New Town and the winner of Saturday’s game will play on Friday, March 15, at 3 p.m. at the Comcast Center in College Park.

New Town Boys Basketball Advances to Regional Finals

The high school team plays in the regional finals Thursday night, weather pending.

New Town High School will compete in the regional finals in the 1A North division of the MPSSAA (Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association). The boys basketball teamteam plays at home on Thursday (weather pending) against Pikesville. New Town beat Western School of Technology and Environmental Science 68-61 on Tuesday. Pikesville won against Perryville 83-53. Owings Mills High’s boys basketball lost in the 2A North regional semifinals Tuesday 87-60 against Edmondson-Westside. New Town Girls Out, Boys Basketball Play Tuesday Night

New Town's girls lost in regional finals Friday night, but the school's boys basketball and Owings Mills High's basketball teams compete in semifinal games Tuesday night.

New Town High's girls basketball team was defeated in the MPSSAA regional finals for 1A North by Western School of Technology and Environmental Science 46-42 on Friday. The school's boys team is still in the playoffs, playing Tuesday night against Western School of Technology and Environmental Science in the 1A North semifinal. The team beat Havre de Grace 69-50 in the previous round. Owings Mills’ boys take Edmonson-Westside High School on the 2A North on Tuesday. The team beat Loch Raven 66-58 in the previous round. Owings Mills, New Town Basketball Advances in Playoffs

Owings Mills and New Town High’s boys basketball are in the semifinals and New Town’s girls are in the regional championship.

Three of the four basketball teams at New Town and Owings Mills high schools are still in the MPSSAA playoffs. New Town’s girls basketball team will complete the regional finals for 1A North against Western School of Technology and Environmental Science Friday, March 1, at 6 p.m. at New Town. They beat Friendship Academy of Science at Technology 60-7 in the previous round. Owings Mills’ boys take Edmonson-Westside High School on the 2A North on Tuesday, March 5, at 5 p.m. The team beat Loch Raven 66-58 in the previous round. Owings Mills Boys Basketball Advances in Playoffs

Owings Mills boys basketball beat Lansdowne Tuesday, and will take on Loch Raven Thursday at 6 p.m.

Owings Mills boys basketball advanced to the quarter finals in the MPSSAA (Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association) playoffs in the 2A North Division. The Eagles, playing at home beat Lansdowne, beat Lansdowne 60-31 Tuesday. They will take on Loch Raven on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. The Eagles girls basketball team plays Chesapeake at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27. Both of New Town High School’s teams are also in the playoffs. New Town’s girls, playing in the 1A North division, will take on Friendship Academy of Science and Technology at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at home. MPSSAA Hosts Eligibility, Recruiting Webinar

The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association is launching a new initiative to teach parents, coaches and students the ins and outs of college athletics.

The state's governing body of high school athletics is striving to make the transition to college easier on student-athletes. The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association has put together a program to help families and schools better understand the process of college recruiting and eligibility. The service is provided through The Recruiting Education Foundation, Inc., a nonprofit organization. "We are happy to provide this informational program to our student-athletes and their families at no cost," MPSSAA Executive Director Ned Sparks said in a news release.
