Reisterstown Motorcycle Club Donates $5K to Hannah More

MCV, a Reisterstown-based motorcycle club, presented Hannah More with a $5,000 check for interactive white boards.

A Reisterstown motorcycle rode into Hannah More School’s gymnasium on bikes to present the school with a generous gift just in time for the holiday. MCV (Motorcycle Club Five) presented the school with a $5,000 check for Mimeo Boards—interactive white boards—on Friday, Dec. 21. While the club originally intended to raise enough money for five boards and the necessary equipment to use them, the donation will cover six boards with money to spare. “It was very cool to ride our bikes right into the filled school gymnasium, where students who had gathered for their holiday assembly were completely surprised by our noisy arrival and thrilled we presented the school with an oversized check for $5,000,” the club’s Facebook page said. In April, the…

Ravens Grants Pays for Athletic Equipment at Hannah More

A grant from a Baltimore Ravens nonprofit will pay for new athletic uniforms and weightlifting machine at Hannah More School.

Hannah More School, a Reisterstown school for students with disabilities, will be able to buy new athletic uniforms and equipment thanks to a grant from a Baltimore Ravens nonprofit. The school received a $4,450 grant from the Ravens All Community Team Foundation, which supports youth development throughout Maryland. The grant will pay for softball, football and basketball uniforms for about 25 kids per year, as well as a machine for safe barbell lifting, according to press release. The Ravens All Community Team Foundation awarded almost $100,000 in 24 grants to nonprofits in the Baltimore area this year as part of its Ravens Plan in Motion project, which provides grants of up to $5,000 to youth programs that promote physical fitness and …

Motorcycle Club to Raise Money for Hannah More

Motorcycle Club Five’s inaugural MCVcares for Kids campaign benefits the Hannah More School in Reisterstown.

MCV does a lot more than ride bikes. Motorcycle Club Five members can often be spotted at Full Moon Pub & Grill wearing their leather vests adorned with “V” patches, but again, these local residents do more than ride and hang out. The Owings Mills/Reisterstown-based club’s charitable arm, MCVcares, was started in June 2011 when they rode in Ride Across America. In the winter, the club raised more than $5,000 to send care packages to troops in Afghanistan. Members even revved their engines at a counter-protest for the Westboro Baptist Church in Glen Burnie last month. The Kansas church, known for its extreme position against homosexuality, was protesting outside of Glen Burnie High School. This month, the club has launched its first “…

Hannah More Bell Will Ring Again at St. Timothy’s

St. Timothy’s School plans to build a tower in its new building for the bell, which used to hang at Hannah More Academy.

The 142-year-old bell that once hung in the chapel at Hannah More Academy isn’t just getting refurbished, it’s getting some extra pizzazz. The bell, which St. Michael’s Church purchased in 1869 from Baltimore-based bell foundry Joshua Regester & Sons, will have chimes and an electric hammer added after it is refurbished. St. Michael’s Church operated out of what is now known as the Hannah More Chapel, which St. Timothy’s School still uses once a year. Come fall 2012, the bell will hang in a new tower at St. Timothy’s School, a private Episcopal school for girls in Stevenson. The school’s head, Randy Stevens, said it should bring back some fond memories for alumni who graduated from Hannah More Academy before the schools merged in 1974. “We…

The process of the " taking of the bell" seems a little gray... who owned the bell anyway? Did St. Timothy's purchase the bell from Baltimore Co.? Either way.. glad it will no longer be a dead ringer.   more ›

Hannah More Student Returns as a Mentor

After overcoming his emotional and educational obstacles, Joe Tichy returned to Hannah More to share his insight.

Four years after Joe Tichy graduated from Hannah More School, he returned with the hope of helping another student who struggled in the classroom. He soon found himself spending his summer working as a one-on-one assistant for a 15-year-old boy at the Reisterstown school, which specializes in educating middle- and high-school students with learning or emotional disabilities. “At the end of last semester, I asked if they had any jobs for the summer. I wanted to get my foot in the door because that’s where I want to teach,” said Tichy, who is studying to be a teacher. After graduating from Hannah More in 2007, Tichy enrolled in Carroll Community College and worked steadily for an associate’s degree in music. He plans to start at UMBC in a …
