Future Expands its Musical Family, Releases Second Half of Concept Album

Virginia band Future releases "The Outer Edge of Inside Vol. 2: Spiritus" Saturday at Jammin' Java, where they'll introduce new member Candice Mills.

When Candice Mills first saw Future perform live, she was floored. She’d usually dance if she was seeing a band she enjoyed, but not this time. “I probably stood there for the whole time they played in amazement,” she said. “It was just all of everything that I love and they did it well.” The sound that reeled Mills in is just as ambitious as the band’s name. While the Northern Virginia-based band could be pigeonholed as a rock band, vocalist/sound sculptor Bucket has coined the term “psykédélique soul” to describe the band’s eclectic, ever-evolving sound. Top Headlines from Jan. 16 to Jan. 23

Slippery roads led to several accidents in the area, Stevenson students returned to school and Owings Mills High dominated in sports — all while the county mourned a firefighter killed in the line of duty.

Tragedy and treachery marked the week's top headlines this week, starting with the death of firefighter Mark Falkenhan, who died while responding to a blaze in Hillendale Wednesday. Snow turned to ice Thursday night, leading to slippery roads and at least three single-vehicle accidents along the back roads of Owings Mills and Reisterstown. One incident required the removal of the roof and door of a car so that the victim could be …

Other than journalism, I live and breathe music. I have attended at least 262 live concerts and music festivals since Aug. 22, 1996. I have thrown and played in the headlining band at eight bi-annual music festivals since the first Rez Ball, a one-day outdoor festival my band, The Rez, started in April 2007. As a guitarist, I’ve performed hundreds of times and connected with more musicians than I can count. As a journalist, I’ve interviewed and photographed funklord George Clinton, Woodstock opener Richie Havens, reggae legends from The Wailers (Bob Marley’s band), the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Tom Petty, The Black Crowes and many more. Something must have hit me that night back in August 1996. As an 11-year-old who had been playing guitar …
