Robberies Up from Last Year, Down in Long-Term
While robberies are up from last year’s number, this year is still under long-term averages.
While there has been an uptick in robberies in 2012 compared to 2011 in the police precinct for Owings Mills and Reisterstown, the number is below the five-year average, according to Baltimore County Police. Police in the Franklin Precinct, which covers Reisterstown and Owings Mills, experienced two recent commercial armed robbery trends, the first such trends in two years. As of Nov. 1, there were 38 robberies year-to-date in the Franklin Precinct. That number includes commercial robberies as well as street robberies. For the years 2007 to 2011, the average number of robberies as of Nov. 1 was 47, said Capt. Matthew McElwee, commander of the Franklin Precinct.
