Join in a 5K to Support Baltimore County's Needy Families

The Assistance Center of Towson Churches needs your assistance. To raise funds for the group, join Patch.com's Baltimore County editors for its 5K run and 1.5 mile walk on Goucher College's campus on June 3.

The Assistance Center of Towson Churches is hosting its first Call to ACTCion 5K run/1.5 Mile Walk around the beautiful Goucher College campus on June 3 at 5 p.m. At Patch, part of our efforts include raising awareness of nonprofit organizations doing good work in our community—especially when they need assistance. You may not know it, but ACTC provides emergency help to poor and needy families across Towson. Check out a video about the organization and the race attached to this story. Its service area incorporates 21 zip codes in the county and in 2011 the organization assisted nearly 26,000 people with food, clothing and other goods. Its Thanksgiving Basket Program in 2011 helped 2,500 families have a holiday meal.  ACTC's main goal is …

Motorcycle Club to Raise Money for Hannah More

Motorcycle Club Five’s inaugural MCVcares for Kids campaign benefits the Hannah More School in Reisterstown.

MCV does a lot more than ride bikes. Motorcycle Club Five members can often be spotted at Full Moon Pub & Grill wearing their leather vests adorned with “V” patches, but again, these local residents do more than ride and hang out. The Owings Mills/Reisterstown-based club’s charitable arm, MCVcares, was started in June 2011 when they rode in Ride Across America. In the winter, the club raised more than $5,000 to send care packages to troops in Afghanistan. Members even revved their engines at a counter-protest for the Westboro Baptist Church in Glen Burnie last month. Patch’s Little Pumpkin Costume Challenge is Now Closed

Heidi Klum will choose the Grand Prize winner from our favorite photos of your creative kids' costumes

Which kid in America has the most creative Halloween costume in the pumpkin patch? That's what we intend to find out with your photos and the help of celebrity judge Heidi Klum, who will select the Grand Prize winner. Patch will whisk the winner to New York or Los Angeles for a three-day, two-night trip for two that includes a meet and greet with Heidi, plus a donation of $1,031 to a local charity of the winner's choice. Nine runners up will also get a $1,031 donation from Patch to a local charity of their choice. Full contest rules are here.
