Former Terrapins and Washington Wizards guard Juan Dixon will be coaching basketball this summer in Pikesville and Owings Mills. Dixon, along with former Towson University coach Terry Truax, are coaches for Premier Basketball Camp, which will hold sessions this July and August at Garrison Forest School and The Park School of Baltimore for boys and girls aged 8-17. Selected in the first round of the NBA Draft in 2002 by the Washington Wizards, Dixon was a college basketball star at the University of Maryland College Park. Owings Mills boys basketball beat Lansdowne Tuesday, and will take on Loch Raven Thursday at 6 p.m.
Owings Mills boys basketball advanced to the quarter finals in the MPSSAA (Maryland Public Secondary School Athletic Association) playoffs in the 2A North Division. The Eagles, playing at home beat Lansdowne, beat Lansdowne 60-31 Tuesday. They will take on Loch Raven on Thursday, Feb. 28, at 6 p.m. The Eagles girls basketball team plays Chesapeake at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27. Both of New Town High School’s teams are also in the playoffs. New Town’s girls, playing in the 1A North division, will take on Friendship Academy of Science and Technology at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at home. New Town and Owings Mills high schools’ girls basketball teams have both advanced to the third round in the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association (MPSSAA) playoffs, and the boys teams play their first games this week. In MPSSAA basketball, every team gets a chance to compete in the playoffs. New Town’s girls, playing in the 1A North division, will take on Friendship Academy of Science and Technology at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 27, at home. Two 14-year-old tried to steal another 14-year-old's backpack after hitting him in the head with a basketball.
An Owings Mills teen was robbed of his backpack by two other teens after they threw a basketball at his head Sunday. He got the bag back with nothing taken from it, police said. The Owings Mills teen, who is 14 and student at Old Court Middle School, was walking on Old Court Road at Winands Road at 6:19 p.m. Sunday when two other teens, both 14, struck his head with a basketball and took his backpack, police said. He got the backpack back, and nothing had been taken from it. Charges have not been filed, according to the police report. One of the suspects is from Windsor Mill, and the other from Randallstown.

Stevenson University SGA organized a "March Madness Throwdown - Students vs. Faculty Game" to benefit the upcoming Relay for Life event. Over $120 was raised from the game, adding to the over $11,000 already raised by clubs and participants.

Two minutes into Thursday night’s contest between Western Tech and New Town, the Wolverines’ Andre Jackson canned a runner to put his squad up 4-2. That bucket would serve as Western Tech’s final lead of the evening. After that shot, the Titans outscored Western Tech 33-7 over the final 14 minutes of the first half—a prolonged run that included two separate 11-0 spurts—on the way to a dominating, 57-40 road victory. Franklin High School had to rely on its supporting cast Wednesday night at home against Baltimore County opponent Hereford. The team's leading-scorer on the season, junior Devin Hebron, did not tally a point until the final three minutes of the game in the Indians' 47-43 victory. Hebron, who scored 25 points against No. 7 John Carroll earlier this week, entered the game for the first time with less than seven minutes to play in the first half, joining the contest when Franklin held a five-point lead.
