Baltimore County is awaiting its first significant snowfall of 2013.
Baltimore County residents could be in for their first big snowfall of 2013 this weekend. Forecasts vary, but a storm projected to reach the Baltimore metro area on Friday could dump a few inches of powder just in time for the weekend. Weather.com forecasts about 1-to-3 inches of snow for the area, depending upon the forecast models. Weather.gov forecasts a 60 percent chance of snow on Friday, and a 50 percent chance on Friday night. The projected high for Friday is 25 degrees, with a low of 18 degrees. There's also a 70 percent chance of snow Wednesday night into Thursday morning, according to Weather.gov. Baltimore County will get another round of snow before the new year begins, according to the National Weather Service. Snow will start falling overnight Friday through late Saturday afternoon in Baltimore County, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Approximately 2 to 4 inches will accumulate, the report said. The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the Baltimore-Washington area—including Harford, northern Baltimore, southern Baltimore, Carroll and Frederick—from 3 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. A winter weather advisory means that snow-covered roads and limited visibilities may make travel difficult. Baltimore was under a severe thunderstorm watch Saturday afternoon and evening.
Cooler temperatures have followed a wall of storms that ripped through central Maryland Saturday. Both Baltimore County and Baltimore City were under a severe thunderstorm watch until 10 p.m. Saturday after the National Weather Service issued the alert Saturday afternoon. National Weather Service has canceled its advisory for most of the region.
(UPDATED 4:45 p.m.) The National Weather Service has canceled its Winter Weather Advisory for Howard and southern Baltimore counties. Meteorologist Justin Berk said he expects some roads to be slushy in the next hour, but any accumulation should stop by 8 p.m. (UPDATED 2 p.m.) The first flakes have started fall in Catonsville and afternoon activities and evening activities are now canceled at all Baltimore County Public Schools. The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for most of central Maryland, including Baltimore County, starting at 11 p.m. tonight. Forecasters are calling for a mix of sleet, freezing rain and snow overnight through Saturday morning and early afternoon. They are predicting between 1-2 inches of snow and sleet, with one-tenth of an inch of freezing rain. The precipitation will end early Saturday afternoon and the advisory ends at 1 p.m. Saturday. Foot's Forecast for Central Maryland is predicting most the accumulations to occurr in areas north and west of Baltimore.
