An event was held in Randallstown by the Ladies of Virtue and Continental Ladies of Baltimore.
Students of Deer Park Middle Magnet School were treated to a day of learning women's history. Mentored by the Ladies of Virtue female mentoring program the school, the students experienced a collection of historic artifacts and information about successes of women. The event, held March 27, was sponsored by the Continental Ladies of Baltimore.

Sen. Jim Brochin says trend of school shootings is driven by people who want to "kill as many as we can."
Recent mass shootings around the country are being driven by people intent on killing as many as possible in order to set a record, according to state Sen. Jim Brochin. "There's a new game in town and it's: 'Let's go to a school and kill as many people as we can and beat the record,'" Brochin said, speaking of high capacity ammunition magazines and the mindset of shooters in incidents such as shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, CT. There was also a shooting at Perry Hall High School on the first day of school. The senator made the comments on the C4 Show on WBAL 1090 AM during a discussion of gun control legislation recently passed by the Maryland General Assembly. In a Wednesday evening town hall that drew education advocates from across the state, U.S. Education Secretary Arne Duncan stressed the importance of early intervention when addressing gun violence in schools. "We literally, literally bury a child every two weeks because of gun violence," Duncan said to a crowd of approximately 400 people gathered at Loch Raven High School. The Baltimore County Police Department is giving teens curious about police work a chance to find out what it's all about through an upcoming leadership academy. Teens ages 14 to 18 are encouraged to apply for the Youth Leadership Academy which will be held June 24 to 29 at locations around Baltimore County, according to a news release. The program is limited to 25 students and applications, which can be found on the county website, must be submitted by May 31, the release states. In order to be considered for the program, applicants will have to complete the application, pass a background check, write an essay about why they should be in the program and have a waiver signed by a parent or guardian, according to the release. At least two members of the Baltimore County Council say they would like to delay a vote on proposed stormwater management fees. Vicki Almond and David Marks both said Tuesday they would like to delay the vote for a month. "Considering the enormity of all this and the information that we have I would personally like us to have a little more time to come up with some amendments and really study this even further," said Almond, a Reisterstown Democrat. Baltimore County officials announced late Friday that it has received eight bids from groups interested in purchasing one of three properties placed on the market by County Executive Kevin Kamenetz. Kamenetz announced in December that he would seek bids on the Towson fire station, North Point Government Center and a police substation in Randallstown. "Government must look for new ways to address aging infrastructure needs while protecting taxpayer dollars," Kamenetz said in a statement released Friday afternoon. "As the proposals are reviewed in the coming months, I remain hopeful that there will be offers that allow us to replace aging County buildings at no cost or reduced cost to the taxpayer." The Maryland House of Delegates Wednesday passed gun control legislation proposed by Gov. Martin O'Malley by a vote of 78-61. The amended bill bans 40 kinds of rifles including the AR15, requires fingerprinting and licensing of all purchasers of new guns and broadens the law prohibiting firearms purchases by anyone who is involuntarily committed because of mental illness. The bill was a major component of O'Malley's legislative package announced at the beginning of the 90-day session. The House of Delegates debated the bill for nearly 10 hours over two days. A bill restricting protests near schools in Baltimore County will not get a hearing or a vote later this month. Councilman Todd Huff said Monday that he will withdraw the bill that bars protests within 300 feet of a school and prohibits protests within one hour before or after school starts and ends. It would have also been illegal to block or prevent the use of public streets, sidewalks or other spaces while protesting. Violators would be subject to a fine of $1,000 or up to a 90-day jail sentence or possibly both. The bill has been criticized since it was introduced two weeks ago.
