Orb, the Kentucky Derby winner, finished fourth.
Oxbow, a 15-1 longshot, went nearly wire-to-wire to win the 138th Preakness Stakes at Pimlico Race Course on Saturday giving trainer D. Wayne Lukas the all-time lead in Triple Crown race victories with 14. The bay colt, ridden by 50-year old Gary Stevens and owned by Calumet Farm, took the lead early from Goldencents and won the $1 million Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown by 1 ¾ lengths holding off Itsmyluckyday and Mylute in 1:57.54. Oxbow also ended hopes for a Triple Crown winner for another year. Orb, the winner of the Kentucky Derby, never got started from his No. 1 post position and finished a disappointing fourth. "I get paid to spoil dreams," Lukas said after the race. "You can’t mail it in, it’s a different surface, a different …

Winning numbers in Saturday's drawing could net a $600 million prize.
The jackpot in Saturday's Powerball drawing has been raised to a game-record $600 million, Maryland Lottery officials announced Friday. The increase, fueled by ticket sales, is the second in as many days. The cash option for the new prize is $376.9 million. The prize, if awarded Saturday, would be the second largest jackpot prize in history, behind a $656 million Mega Millions jackpot awarded last year. One of the winning tickets nationwide was sold at a 7-Eleven in Milford Mill. The drawing will be aired live locally on WBAL-TV at 11:22 p.m. Saturday. The jackpot has "rolled" (that is, no ticket has had the full winning numbers) 13 times since April, according to lottery officials. Powerball's previous record jackpot was $587 million, won…
Main Street will be closed from approximately 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m.
The Reisterstown Volunteer Fire Company will celebrate its 100th Anniversary with a parade down Main Street Saturday morning. Main Street between Chartley Drive and the Reisterstown Village Shopping Center – where Food Lion is located – will be closed from about 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., said Calvin Reter, a member of the fire company. Although there was a possibility of cancelling the parade after the company lost firefighter Gene Kirchner earlier this month because of injuries sustained in a fire, the Kirchner family insisted the parade go on as planned, Reter said. Approximately 40 apparatuses will be joining the fire company during the celebration, according to the RVFC’s website.
The Marchex Institute says Maryland may have raised cursing to an art form. What the #@%*?
What's so great about being nice? Nice never got anybody anywhere, right? According to a finding from the Marchex Institute, those are some questions Marylanders might ask themselves considering the institute's recent findings: We curse and act impolitely on consumer telephone calls. Whether that says anything about Marylanders as a people is between you and your robocaller, but it's statistically true, according to the institute - only Ohio had more cursing measured on more than 600,000 phone calls from the past 12 months. Virginia, our neighbor to the south, on the other hand, was fifth for most courteous. Marchex released the findings just in time for National Etiquette Week, monitoring calls placed by consumers to businesses across…
