The Reisterstown community is swelling with pride after the Franklin High School football team brought home its first ever state football championship title Thursday night.

Franklin knocked off the Linganore Lancers of Frederick County with a 20-7 win at M&T Bank Stadium Thursday, Dec. 5. This is the first time since Franklin's football program started in 1967 that the school has won a football championship title.

"The championship represents the culmination of months of hard work by a dedicated coaching staff and committed student athletes," Franklin High School Principal Patrick McCusker told Patch.  "Moreover, the entire Franklin and Reisterstown/Glyndon communities have been incredibly supportive, so everyone is feeling a sense of pride and accomplishment right now."

McCusker said that the win represents more than just successful play on the field.

"Personally, I feel that our football team is one of the greatest groups of students with whom I’ve worked in over 23 years in education.  They embody everything we want in our students with respect to academics, extracurricular involvement, and character—and all of that stems from the leadership of the coaching staff."

Earlier this week Franklin High School football Coach Anthony Burgos said told Patch that the team had to stay focused to get the win. And that is just what they did.
