Woman Charged with Assault, DUI in 3-Car Crash

A Stevensville woman faces a dozen charges in connection with a three-car crash on Rowe Boulevard in Annapolis.

A Stevensville woman faces charges of second-degree assault and nine traffic violations—including driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol—in connection with a car crash on Rowe Boulevard.

Annapolis police said Tracey Ann Blades, 24, rear-ended a car at the intersection of Rowe Boulevard and Farragut Road at about 9:10 a.m. Saturday. The car had reportedly started to accelerate after the light turned green, and police said the force of the impact slammed the first car into another car in front of it.

Police said Blades was driving 10 to 20 miles above the posted speed limit of 40 miles per hour and she didn’t apply her brakes before the crash. All three cars slid about 150 feet south on Rowe Boulevard, according to police.

The impact welded two of the cars together.

When officers arrived, they said they found Blades walking barefoot down Rowe Boulevard away from the accident. Police said she was unsteady on her feet and kept wobbling back and fourth.

In a police report, officers said Blades initially denied being part of the accident and then blamed the other drivers.

"I am fine, I just don't understand why that vehicle was stopped," Blades told police, according to the report.

Police said Blades then asked to return to her car for her shoes, and an officer spotted an open, half-full bottle of vodka between the two front seats.

As she entered the vehicle for her shoes, police said Blades reached for the bottle and tried to dump it out.

When an officer stopped her, Blades reportedly swore at him, demanded to leave and pushed him in the shoulder.

Police also reported finding a glass tube with burnt residue—which they identified as drug paraphernalia—during a search of Blades' vehicle.

Blades was charged with second-degree assault, possession of drug paraphernalia, and possession of an open container of alcohol.

Police also charged Blades with nine traffic citations, driving while impaired by drugs or alcohol, failure to immediately return and remain at scene of accident and driving with a suspended registration.

Blades was held on a $35,000 bond at the Jennifer Road Detention Center until Wednesday, according to online court records.

The police report did not mention any injuries related to the wreck.

she'll probably get off with a suspended sentence and continue to jeopardize the safety of others.
