An Owings Mills man collided with a Howard County Police cruiser with its emergency lights on in a Friday morning accident on Route 40 near St. Johns Lane, police said.  Both drivers were injured.

The officer, Pfc. Quintin Singo, was traveling southbound on St. Johns Lane around 5:39 a.m. when he attempted to cross Route 40 and was struck by a 2006 Hyundai Tuscon traveling eastbound, according to police. Police said the officer was responding to a commercial burglary report.

Singo, a five-year veteran of the police force, was transported to Howard County General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries and later released. The driver of the Hyundai, James Carl Thompson Sr., of Owings Mills, was also transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries in stable condition, police said.

The collision resulted in Route 40 eastbound being closed for about two hours as police investigated. Police said they'll be directing traffic at the intersection because the collision damaged the traffic light.
