Firefighter Hits 70 Years with Owings Mills Volunteers

Bill Howard has been a volunteer firefighter in Owings Mills since the United States entered World War II.

An Owings Mills volunteer firefighter reached 70 years of service Monday, a company spokeswoman said.

Bill Howard has been a member of the since he attended his first meeting on Dec. 8, 1941, Marci Catlett wrote in an e-mail.

To put the achievement in perspective, Howard's first meeting with the company came one day after the attack on Pearl Harbor, which thrust the United States into World War II.

"We congratulate Bill and salute him for his many years of service for our citizens with our fire company," Catlett said.
