Catonsville Crime: Several Burglaries Reported

The following information is provided by the Baltimore County Police Department. In instances where there are arrests, those do not indicate a conviction.

The following information are summaries of police reports filed in Precinct One/Wilkens of the Baltimore County Police Department.

Editor's note: Baltimore County Police contacted Patch on June 20 to say that  the incident on Palladi Drive and Courtney Road occurred in 21227, not 21228 as the report indicated.

Attempted second-degree burglary: Sometime between May 30 and May 31, someone pried the hinges off of a plastic shed in the backyard of a home on the 900 block of Palladi Drive. No items were taken.

Fourth-degree burglary: Sometime between 5 p.m. on June 1 and 10:15 a.m. on June 4, someone took two window air conditioning units out of a business on the 6100 block of Baltimore National Pike.

Third-degree burglary: Between  2 a.m. and 7:18 a.m. on June 5, the resident's former boyfriend allegedly entered through the bedroom window of her apartment, located on the 1100 block of Courtney Road. According to the police report, the suspect screamed at the victim and smashed her cell phone.

Wondering why these locations listed above are considered Catonsville. Courtney Rd is much closer to Arbutus than Catonsville. 1600 Block of Balto. Nat'l Pike is at Charing Cross Shopping Center. Is that Catonsville? Surely Palladi Dr. is considered Arbutus since it's south of Wilkens Ave. I would think that 2 of the 3 should be in the Arubuts Patch. Just wondering?

Hi Rosebud, thanks for asking. The incidents mentioned are all in 21228 and we usually post everything that happens in 21228 on Catonsville Patch.

Hi Rosebud! I think I remember you commenting about the zip code mess on Arbutus going down the tubes article. I am the Elm Ridge Avenue Association 21229 Baltimore County. If you look www.zipdatamaps.com/21229 you will indeed see there maybe about 20 Streets in this zip code. Look at the map and you will see what alittle area of the county this is. If you get rid of one zip code line on either side we could all be either 21228 0r 21227. I checked a federal paper on this and the zip codes have nothing to do with the census, voting or anything else. The zip codes are at the descretion of the Postmaster General. I am presently looking into changing our zip code into th county where it belongs. Federal statistics group us in with city 21229 --crime, earnings, education and everything else. How can the Feds be so dumb!

Sorry Penny, but, this is a big issue for the people in Baltimore County where we have no true identity in 21229. Quirk doesn't know we exist, but the fine men and women police officers of Wilkens District, know we exist, and they have been great. Without them this place would be horrible. Elm Ridge Ave. is this areas best kept secret!

Terry, I think you are misunderstanding what I was referring to. The above incidents were 21228, not 21229. I agree with you about the Wilkens Police folks being super! Are you part of the group that has been working on the 21229 ZIP code? Have you spoken with Arbutus editor Bruce Goldfarb? If you haven't feel free to email me at penny.riordan@patch.com and we can talk offline.
