Metro Centre Update: Apartment Building ‘Topped Off’

A luxury apartment building with bottom floor retail is expected to open in the spring along with a building housing the Baltimore County Public Library’s largest branch and the Community College of Baltimore County.

The Metro Centre at Owings Mills is nearing the spring opening of three buildings that will include apartments, retail, a library and community college branch.

The first of two luxury apartment buildings with ground floor retail space has been ‘topped off’ and a second building will follow in a couple of weeks, according to a press release.

The two five-story buildings together feature 56,000 square feet of ground level retail space and 232 apartment homes. The buildings sit along the Metro Centre’s main street, Grand Central Avenue.

Both buildings are expected to be completed by March 2013, as is the adjacent 120,000 square foot, six-story building that will house the Baltimore County Public Library’s largest branch and a branch of the Community College of Baltimore County.

The Metro Centre is set to feature 1.2 million square feet of office space, 300,000 square feet of retail space, 1,700 apartments, the community college and library building, and a hotel with 250 rooms.

And I read elsewhere that the developer, Carl Verstandig, has puchased 7 acres on Reisterstown Rd and I-795 (??) to build tire and muffler shops and car washes. Just what we need along Reisterstown Rd, more auto related junk instead of qua;ity retail!

Well it took me an hour to get from Pikesville to Reisterstown this afternoon. I guess that the infrastructure of roads and traffic engineering initiatives will come into play after the fact. Wow! 1700+residences what an opportunity for those criminals who seem to prey on people and places in this area lately? And retail............just drive up and down Reisterstown road and see the blight and closed businesses but here is an opportunity for them to rise again? Perhaps we can come up with some type of "vacant building" tax on top of all of this or we can use the vacant areas to store those "gaming tables" from MD "Live" after National Harbor is built or just use the venues for "same sex" wedding receptions or as "study halls" for the illegal immigrants who wil receive tuition cuts while I work more to put my kids through college! The only good news is that the "fiscal cliff" will take away even more money and I will then be eligible for food stamps just like the ladies that I see at the grocery store with their "Indepence Cards" who carry their Louis Vuiton and Gucci bags and drive those Lexus SUVs! What a country!! What a state! and what a great place to live locally! You all have my continued vote and support. Maybe if your kids had to go to public schools like mine and you actually lived, worked and shopped in the mainstream, you just might get it! ?
