Cardin Fundraises In Chicago for Possible AG Bid

About 30 people attended fundraiser for the Baltimore County Democrat.

Del. Jon Cardin took his fundraising efforts for a possible Maryland attorney general campaign all the way to Chicago last week.

Cardin held a small event at Mercat a la Planxa, a Catalan-inspired tapas restaurant on Michigan Avenue in the Windy City. The Aug. 8 event was held in conjunction with the delegate's attendance at the National Conference of State Legislators last week.

The three-term Democratic delegate had been considering a possible run for state comptroller but said Monday that his plans have changed.

"I'm exploring the attorney general position," said Cardin, who represents Owings Mills, Pikesville and part of Timonium. "I'm not exploring the comptroller position."

About 30 people connected to the conference paid between $100 and $500 to attend. Cardin said he did not yet know how much money he raised at the event.

He's holding another event later this week in Ocean City during the Maryland Association of Counties convention—provided the General Assembly can complete its work on legislation on expanded gaming and pit bulls.

Current Attorney General Doug Gansler is expected to vacate the position to run for governor in 2014. The opening would provide an opportunity for Cardin and others who are also said to be exploring the position such as Montgomery County Democratic Senators Brian Frosh and Jamie Raskin.

Didn't you read the article?
"About 30 people connected to the conference paid between $100 and $500 to attend." It was held there because there was a conference there.

Maybe Obamas' buddy Tony Resco threw in a few bucks. I am for Franchot to be the next governor. He is the ONLY dem in the republic of MD with any common sense and feels for the working people, the middle class and the REWAL taxpayers in MD.

How do you just change from being interested in the comptroller's position, which involves fiscal and financial responsibility, to the AG position, which involves the law? Oh, wait, he realized that Franchot is the one Democrat that makes sense and is liked by - egads - Republicans and Independents as well as Democrats and there's no way he's going to defeat him.

I have known Susan for many years. We were in Child Study together when my children were young.Read More She is a wonderful woman & I am proud to see her honored for her work with Linda. I also have gotten to know Linda from hanging at Mars & the Dollar Store. Linda & I have become friendly & I have had her over for dinner a few times and recently had a birthday party for her at my house. Linda is a wonderful woman and she is lucky to have Susan working with her. When I had Linda over for her birthday she talked about the award banquet, but she led us to believe the award was for Susan. When I took her home, I saw the award & realized it was for Linda. I'm excited for both women & proud to say that I know them both! Nancy Hoffman
