Har Sinai Congregation will celebrate Purim with a Purimspiel, where Dr. Seuss characters will narrate the Purim story, and a Purim carnival, where families will gather for games, food and raffle prizes. Games will include video games, football toss and Can Hamen, and food will include pizza, hot dogs and snow cones.
When? Sunday, Feb. 24, 11:15 a.m. Purimspiel, noon Purim carnival
Where? Har Sinai Congregation, 2905 Walnut Ave., Owings Mills, Md.
The celebration is open to the public. Purimspiel participants may bring unopened boxes of macaroni to use as noisemakers and, afterward, donate to the Community Crisis Center. Purim carnival participants may bring a bag of food for the food drive to receive six free game tickets. For more information, contact the synagogue office at 410-654-9393.
Purim is a joyous holiday that recounts the saving of the Jewish people from a threatened massacre during the Persian period. The story of Purim is recounted in the Book of Esther, whose heroine Esther plays the leading role in saving her people.
