The library building dates back to the 1820s. What was known then as the Franklin Academy became the county's first high school in 1874. It became a library in 1961.
The library houses the Reisterstown Historical Room, a collection of local historic documents, on its second floor. It offers various programs such as book clubs for adults and children, story time for babies and a variety of other special programs.
