Where to Commemorate MLK Day

Museums will be open and the annual parade rolls through Baltimore City.

There are several events going on in the Baltimore area for Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday.

As a reminder, county government will be closed, as will post offices, libraries, courts, health department clinics, CountyRide vans and senior centers. Trash and recycling centers will be open, and pickups will proceed on their normal schedule.

In Baltimore City, the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade sets off at noon. from Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Eutaw Street. The Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts has more information about the route and performers, including the city's best marching bands.

On Sunday, the Walters Art Museum hosts a talk by Rep. Elijah Cummings about the importance of King's Legacy. Then on Monday, head to the museum again for a free family festival, including performances, art activities and service projects.

The American Visionary Art Museum celebrates on Monday with free admission, guided tours, birthday cake and a 3 p.m. performance by Batala, an all-female drumming group from Washington, DC. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
