Visions for Vacancies: Main Street Hess

TELL US: What would you like to see in the vacant gas station next to Wawa in Reisterstown?

The Hess gas station on Main Street in Reisterstown has been vacant since the summer of 2011. It closed its doors and shut off the pumps months before Wawa opened next door.

With so many nearby gas stations, including the Wawa with its indoor convenience store, the site might not be dispensing gas again in the near future.

What would you like to see in this vacant space? Tell us in the comments.

Is there a commercial vacancy you'd like to discuss? If so be sure to email editor Marc Shapiro (marc.shapiro@patch.com) and maybe it will be featured in the next Visions for Vacancies.

About this column: Owings Mills-Reisterstown Patch readers weigh in with their opinions on potential uses for vacant commercial spaces. Related Topics: Hess, Main Street, and Visions for Vacancies

A really nice car wash or a bowling alley or a rec center for after school programs for teenage boys and girls.

I don't think there's enough space for those ideas unfortunately...

I like the car wash idea or a sub Police Station since we are seeing more crime on 140 and in Reisterstown.

You realize how tiny that gas station is right? Where do you propose we put this Old Navy, or bowling alley? lol

I would like to see a Friendly's, Panera, or some time of descent restaurant there, if it would fit!

Just what Java Mama's want to see.
And how would they compete with WaWa?
WaWa would just offer all coffee drinks for $1 as they lowered their gas prices initially to drive the BP and Gulf stations out of business.

Of course the structure could be changed, but with a little imagination I could see something like a "mom and pop" store there such as an organic soup and salad cafe with coffees and teas, an art gallery/gift shop, a french bakery, a souvineer shop. I am surprised at the responses with not much thinking outside the box. Why have the same thing that is just a few miles away. Mind you some Big Box stores like Old Navy might go into the new shopping centers in Owings Mills.

How about a small pet supply store. The closest one now is petco in Owings mills,
A hobby store that sells model trains and model kits vs fabric and sewing needs

Maybe a small Reisterstown historical musuem?

ANYTHING but another abandoned lot with a skeleton of a gas station to sit for 20 years before somebody puts up temporary fencing and knocks it down to a rubble pile and leaves it indefinatly. Heck - leave it as a gas station - the competition would drive gas prices down!

There's a small pet supply store next to Blue Point Crab House and across from the Goodwill, but I wouldn't mind seeing one a little closer than that...

How about a mini health food store or natural pharmacy?

I second a health food store or natural pharmacy. reisterstown needs a health food store!! A store that sold local goods like breads, meats, eggs and cheeses from local farms. Something like the Green Onion in hamilton

Idiots abound

I'm fairly certain atleast 1 in 4 if not 2 in 4 people who posted here so far either do not live in Reisterstown or have mental development issues.

First someone thinks it's a good idea to build a car wash or a bowling alley? Really? If that's such a great business plan how come the ones in the Reisterstown Shopping center didnt flourish? Car washes are a thing of the past as is bowling.

That horrid idea is only out done by the "police substation" idea. Really? You want a police substation not 3 miles away from the POLICE STATION? I sure hope you arent responsible for spending our tax money.

My idea.....put in an all glass jail. That way when the idiots do wrong they can be housed there. Their thug friends walking/driving/MTA'ing all over Reisterstown can see the jailed thug friends and that might cut down on crime.

Bowling alley? What is this 1950?

Not to mention....the lot is really really small.

What is wrong with a bowling alley? Yes that lot is too small, but we need a place for families to go and spend time together. With today's world they don't get to do that too much. And also it would be fun to be in a bowling league again as long as it had duckpins along with ten pins
