Seventh Annual ‘Battle of the Bell’ Game Thursday
The basketball game between Franklin Middle and Franklin High teachers, which raises money for cancer research, takes places Thursday at Franklin High.
The Reisterstown and Owings Mills community will pack Franklin High’s gym Thursday for the seventh year in a row to watch teachers from Reisterstown’s middle and high schools take each other on in basketball.
But the game isn’t just for fun, even though it is hugely popular among students and the community. It aims to raise money for The V Foundation for Cancer Research.
“In 2006, two faculty members from Franklin High and Franklin Middle School envisioned both schools working together in a community effort to fight cancer,” according to a press release. “An idea was proposed, a partnership was created and a new tradition was developed.”
Since the inaugural game in April 2006, more than $25,000 has been raised for the foundation.
Doors open at 6 p.m. at Franklin High School on Thursday, March 8, and tickets are $5. All proceeds from the evening benefit The V Foundation.
