Reisterstown Library Roof to be Repaired

Work begins this week to repair the leaky roofs at the Reisterstown Library.

Contractors begin fixing the Reisterstown Library’s roof this week.

The roof structures on the two additions to the library’s original building have leaked in recent years, compromising the safety of the collection and individuals in the building, according to a Baltimore County Public Library press release.

The project costs $112,000, half of which is covered by the County Library Capital Grant Program through the Maryland State Department of Education. The work is being completed by Baltimore-based Phoenix Contracting Services.

“The replacement of the standing seam roof and the membrane flat roof at the Reisterstown Branch will allow us to continue to provide library service to the community for years to come,” said Jo Pinder, Baltimore County Public Library’s assistant director for support services, in a press release.

Won't the Reisterstown library be closed when the new Metro Centre library is completed?

From Baltimore County Public Library's Spokesman, Bob Hughes: "The Reisterstown Branch, one of our 18-branch system’s most popular, will continue serving the community just as it has since 1961. With annual circulation well over a half million (590,368) and visitors numbering over a quarter million (266,339), the Reisterstown Branch is one of BCPL’s most popular and we anticipate it will continue providing its vast array of services to the Reisterstown community for many years to come."

No, the Reisterstown Branch is not closing. The Owings Mills location will be an additional location. It is not a replacement for Reisterstown.
