Despite Rain, VFW Drive Draws Some Blood, Donors

American Red Cross collections technician Rovenia Mack of Owings Mills chats it up during a slow day at the blood donation drive held at the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 521 Tuesday. In the foreground, several ice chests sit ready to chill blood on ice during its transport back to the lab. Volunteers said the VFW hosts the drives every few months, and when it's rainy, it's a tougher sell. Showers hit the area through the evening, and as of 5 p.m., techs had collected six units of blood.
