Constellation Books Closing At End of March

Owner Lauretta Nagel will still be involved with the Main Street Committee and Bloomin’ Artfest.

Main Street bookstore Constellation Books will be closing its door at the end of March, its owner announced in an email to customers.

“Sales have not risen to the point that I can keep the shop open, and with the U.S. economy shrinking, it will not rebound,” owner Lauretta Nagel said in the email.

Ever the enthusiastic reader, she is marking all books, except for special orders, down by 50 percent until the store closes.

“I would rather they go to good home where they will be read,” she said.

In the email, she asks customers with special orders to pick them up before the last week.

Nagel said she will continue to be involved with the Main Street Committee, which is aiming to earn Reisterstown Main Street Maryland recognition, and Bloomin’ Artfest.

“I’m not giving up [on] Main Street Reisterstown at all,” she said. “There’s so much potential there.”

Check back early next week for an extended story on Lauretta Nagel and Constellation Books.

I filmed a video of this place; please watch it, see if they have something that you may like, then go support them before they close.

So sad. I'll miss visiting Constellation Books to buy gifts for people, and Lauretta's wit and charm.
Any word on what will happen to the space after the bookstore closes?

sadly it will be vacant like much of the rest of the area- proerty value is way down, rents are tough and the area is becoming a grave yard, as a property owner and business i wish to do more and open to public and offer many products but it seems like throwing more money into my building would be a waste, i will get a better return from a slot machine in the casino- which means 0 return on investment- i wish to become more involved in getting our area back on the map and learn more about the meetings , where do i find out more, its sad to see this slice of history die a slow death

Lauretta and Constellation Books made Main Street a better place to shop and visit. I'm glad Lauretta will still be involved in the community but her leaving the corner of Main and Bond will be sorely missed. I'm sure this was a bittersweet decision she had to make. Thank you ,Lauretta, for all you brought to Reisterstown's Main Street, with your business and your involvement in our community.

I'm sorry to hear that you are leaving Main Street Lauretta. We talked about the possibility of you closing Constellation Books a few weeks ago. I had hoped that sales would pick up and things might change for you. Your store served a need for people who preferred less crowded areas and traffic issues they experience at Malls and large shopping centers. I've enjoyed working with you on the Bloomin ArtFest committee for a number of years and appreciate your participation at our Reisterstown Improvement Association meetings. I'm glad to hear that you will continue to be involved in the community.

Alas...I did a book signing there a few years ago -- and was hoping to follow up with another. :-(
