CASA of Baltimore County Holds Fundraiser Oct. 25
A Harvest of Hope for Children will raise money for the organization, which helps abused and neglected children. Several CASA volunteers call Reisterstown and Owings Mills home.
CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) of Baltimore County will hold a fundraiser in Cockeysville next week to raise money to help abused and neglected children.
A Harvest of Hope For Children will be held on Thursday, Oct. 25, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Oregon Ridge Lodge in Cockeysville. The event features a buffet dinner from Kooper’s Tavern and live music from Someone Else.
Several CASA volunteers call Reisterstown home, and say they’ve had great experiences working with the children CASA advocates for.
Mary Boenning, a member of CASA’s event committee, has been volunteering since 2009. After her youngest child graduated from high school, she looked for ways to volunteer and found CASA. She’s been an active case worker for a teenage boy for two years.
“Witnessing the evolution of this young man and helping explore his future has been an amazing experience and a privilege to be a part of,” she said in a press release.
Another Reisterstown resident, Karen Coleman, was a part-time CASA employee since 2003 and became a volunteer in 2012. She picked up the case of 17-year-old female whose previous volunteer had to resign.
“I had already developed a rapport with her because I had supervised the case, and it felt like a natural progression to pick up where the volunteer left off,” Coleman said in a press release. “I enjoy working with her and find it to be a very rewarding experience. It’s a unique experience being on the ‘other side’ after having supervised volunteers for nine years.”
A Harvest of Hope for Children hopes to raise more than $60,000 to support CASA. Individual tickets to the event are $75 in advance and $80 at the door. Corporate sponsorships are also available. For tickets or sponsorship information, call 410.828.0515 or visit www.casachildren.org.
