Body of Missing Elkridge Woman Found Under Shed After 21 Years, Husband Charged

Robert Jarrett has been charged in the death of his former wife whose body police found buried in concrete under a shed.

Police have found the body of a woman they believe was killed 21 years ago and charged her husband, who lives on Claire Drive in Elkridge, in her death.

Detectives Wednesday searched the property of Robert Jarrett, 57, and found a body buried in concrete under his shed. They charged him with first and second-degree murder in the killing of his former wife, Christine Jarrett, whom he reported missing in 1991.

Robert Jarrett's current wife, from whom police said he is now separated, lives at the Claire Drive home.

"Police received permission from the current wife to conduct a search of the property and found the remains of a woman believed to be Christine Jarrett under the floorboards of a shed, buried in concrete," said the Howard County Police Department (HCPD) in a written statement.

"The remains will be analyzed by the medical examiner to confirm identity and cause of death," said the report. "Personal effects located with the body indicate it likely is Christine Jarrett."

On Friday, the medical examiner confirmed through dental records that the remains were those of Christine Jarrett.

In the last few hours of Jan. 3, 1991, Christine Jarrett reportedly had a dispute with her husband, according to the Doe Network, a volunteer group that helps law enforcement track missing persons. She was not seen after that.

Robert Jarrett reported his wife missing Jan. 5, 1991, according to HCPD.

"Police suspected foul play but did not have evidence at the time to prove it," said HCPD in a statement released April 19.

On Thursday morning, a note on the door at the Jarrett residence was posted that read: "No trespassing. No media."

Robert Jarrett was held at the Howard County Detention Center with no bond.

This article was updated on April 21 to reflect that the remains have been verified as those of Christine Jarrett.

My Issue is that wife # 2 was basically accused of a crime by Jamie, a major one at that. This is not the forum to ever make accusations concerning somebody being guilty of murder or an accessory. It is now on the internet for all to see. Her family , children etc... Thanks Heidi I appreciate your sympathy concerning my feelings.

Savannah, how could the Patch control others thoughts, assumptions and comments. People are individuals with a right to question and comment in this type of forum. I think calling people names is inconsiderate and unproductive you can disagree with someone constructively and maintain integrity. Calling someone a moron and insulting the Patch makes you look like a loose cannon. Had you been respectful and thoughtful in your criticism people would have given your words consideration. I read them and thought, wow what is wrong with this lady? Why is she so angry?

Savannah Michele stated that she knew details. Perhaps she was friends with the deceased. Maybe she's angry and hurting. Why is it ok for jamie to express her feelings, but not Savannah? This is a tragedy for many, many people. You are lucky if no one in your life has been murdered. I wish the best for you, because clearly, you are uneducated and probably like seeing the U.S. losing its edge. You're what's wrong with America.

He basically fooled everyone for 21 years, even though there was always some inkling of a doubt, you don't want to believe someone you know that well is a freaking murderer and also as important, you don't want to believe someone you knew for 11 years is dead!!!

They two are victums of this man. My heart goes out to these two boys that have to go through putting their mother to rest a second time in life and now realizing she never abandoned them but their father killed her. I don't understand how this man could look at his children's everyday for 21 yrs knowing he killed her and making them think she left them never to return.

Totally understand why wife #2 did not know anything: Love is blind. Killers are usually psychopaths who manipulate others. Seems like this guy was real good at it. Leave the poor women alone. Bad enough the defense will probably cross examine her at the trial. She will have to relive this all over again. The guy needs to be taken out behind the jail and shot. He lived with her and all the kids lying to them for 21 years. I say he doesn't deserve "civil rights" he gave them up a long time ago!

I mean like how would they prove that he is lying... I mean he is pretty good at it from the looks of 21 years.. I mean the police can say her windpipe was broke from strangulation but they defense can counter that and say it was done by they concrete.. By no mean do i think he is not guilty but would that not be crazy if he said that and was out in 5 years. Anything could happen Just Saying !!!

John c wall that just sounds sick and twisted and if happens than there isn't any justices!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sherry jarrett, I too can't fathom how guilt didn't eat him alive. Looking at his children everyday for 21 yrs and have no remorse or emotion about this. I live on this street as well and his wife Martha and daughter have been hounded for hours all the way up until 11 at night which is ridiculous give them some privacy and time to wrap their own minds around this. The neighborhood is not going to be the same after this! We use to all let out children pet their dog Clifford. My heart breaks for his sons and even his daughter. Sherry being related to him are you getting any info on as to how she was killed? She had to have been killed inside the house. Don't you think someone would have heard her scream? What if he did it while she was sleeping.

I would have thought that the boys would have heard some ruckus or fighting downstairs, I doubt that she ever made it up to the bedroom to go to sleep, like he says. I am thinking he suffocated her or choked her to death, as the police did go through the house with an instrument that could detect blood and didn't find any. He also failed the HOCO lie detector test TWICE. I seriously doubt any version of the story he told about that night. Yeah, Clifford is a nice dog. I really don't talk to the family anymore, but I did talk to his mother yesterday and it seemed from her tone that the family was circling their wagons and rallying around him, i.e. going to visit him, etc. I don't know if it was my son that I could face him for a while. I asked if he was remorseful and his mother said he was just in "disbelief". WTF is he in disbelief about? That he finally got caught? I hope he either gets the death penalty or life without parole. He so deserves either one!!!

Well let's say john is right i guess he would have be doomed than just like he is now lawyer guy. I do agree with you about how could he live with these guilt for so long.. But either way there is only 3 people that know what happen that night and you know who they are and if that did happen he would not of got a fair trail then or now. Because to many people judge people without even knowing the facts.. What gets me about all this is it is up to the police to prove what happen beyond a reasonable doubt.. Not up to us to asume what happen.. Could it have happen yes... did it ??? We don't know !!!!! Like i said their is only 3 people that know the truth to what happen.. And i know i will get alot and i mean alot of negative commets about my last post but lets just step back and think about this even Sherry Jarrett said it the neighbors said it and i will say it 20 years ago 2 weeks later pouring concrete in the middle of winter.. Failing the lie detector. I mean what the heck were the police thinking about ??? If anyone messed this case up it would have been them.. If there is any kind of reasonable doubt is going to be because of them.. I mean pouring concrete in the middle of winter 2 weeks later is not enough reason to get a search warrant for the garage or was the not failing a lie detector one not enough. I don't get it .. I mean would it have not been easier to solve this case and know exactly what happen if the Police did their job right 20 years ago ??? I mean i am sorry i can not say what happen that night i was not there.. But as far as the reasonable doubt i think there will be all kinds of it in this case thanks to the Police.. The sad thing is the only way we will really know is if he stands up there and tell us the truth about what happen that night.. After all these years of guilt who knows he might but i doubt it

Well lets just say i know bob as sherry calls him very well too. And lets just say we never
seen eye to eye either. But with that being said my first reaction was that he did it by saying did it he killed her... Then i put the eye to eye thing aside and i started thinking about the facts.. 1.The facts are none of us were there 2.Did he go to work everyday (yes) 3. Did he remarry and keep that relationship for over 10 years (yes) 4. Did he ever get charged with any violent crime in the last 21 years (no) 5. Did he get charged with a restraining order (yes) 6 Did he put her in the hospital (no) 6 Did he do anything to her when he left (no) Must people that do things like murder have a track records of committing a crime.. You working the system should know that... I mean you even said you used to let your kids pet his dog.. Now i have worked with bob for a long long time.. And me for one have never seen him get so angry that he could not control himself and i myself have been with him sometimes longer than he has even been at home.. So all i am saying is it could of happen but then again you never know. But with that being said that is why we have the court system and me for one would hate to put someone away for life... When there is reasonable doubt... I also would hate to let someone free that did it but that is why we have the police to make sure they prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt..

He admittedly told the police that they argued that night. I personally have seen him get the look of dead hate in his eyes. I just hope the police didn't botch anything and he gets life without parole. Not all people who commit murder have violent track records! Working Man, I have known Bob J personally for 33 years. But isn't that what the lie detecter test is supposed to do, if the person is lying the needle will show it because they are "freaked out"?

I mean there is some big difference in those and we never know why people do the things they do when they are under pressure.. Is all I am sayin.. But for what ever reason he did it he is at fault. But what degree of fault is my question ?? We can't automaticlly think he did it on purpose just like we can't automatically think he did it accident...But there is a bog difference between the two of them... So for people to come on here and say he should get life or the death penalty are just flat out wrong because they are convicting him before they any know what the fact's are..

Whether an "accident", like he accidently applied too much pressure to her throat or accidently held the pillow over her face for too long, so I can automatically think he did it, whether by accident or on purpose. He purposely either had his hands around her throat or held the pillow over her face. So it was no accident that he killed her. He could not control his anger and he had no business having his hands around her throat or pillow over her face (if that is in fact the way he did it). As a side note, they had been separated the year before around August or so, and was living at his mother's house in the RV, and then he went back, maybe in August, some sort of timeline like that. Then he kills her in January.

His heavy drinking helped him keep his dark secret through the years. Coors Light and rum. And I think it was his downfall, as he probably ran his mouth to wife #2, letting out tidbits of the truth and she was probably the anoymous tipster, after leaving her for another woman. He has a long history of cheating on his wives. He cheated on Chrissy and now cheated on Martha. I don't know how his kids, 2 from Chrissy and one from Martha are going to view him now. Will they ever be able to speak or look at him again? I hope he gets life without parole. I'm pissed because he lied and deceived me and all of us for so long, he must have thought we were really gullible to believe him and listen to his BS stories.

They delete comments and I have no idea what some of these comments are even referring too. The fox 45 Facebook page article also said that the wife gave them the tip too. Now it's gone.

yes, I left a comment way at the beginning of the thread (based on the original story) and personally asked for the writer of the article to remove it, because people were calling me all kinds of names because, since they didn't see the non-edited version, they thought I was just making false accusations towards the 2nd wife, which I was not doing.

There hasn't been any update on this case.. So this thread is the only place to leave and get info I assume. I will pubically say sorry if I have offended anyone in my post. Citizen it's ok. I think a lot of feelings are going into these comments don't take it to heart.

just stating the obvious! but if you read from top to bottom all of you are in some way saying or talking about something or someone involved. and than complaining its wrong, freedom of speech
